Job Purpose

The HOD HR and Training is responsible to provide comprehensive HR solutions to the business in order to ensure that SAAT has the right people resources, policies and practices to deliver on its strategy.

Principal Accountabilities

Identify key areas within SAAT where HR can meet and deliver upon business needs

To review, interpret and understand the SAA Group Strategy and how this links and impacts on SAAT’s strategy
To consult with cross-functional stakeholders within SAAT to understand their business requirements and identify the gaps between what is needed and what has been delivered
HR benchmarking and industry best practice comparison

To keep abreast with current industry trends and practices and advise the business around how these can be applied within the SAAT context
To regularly benchmark and compare how SAAT can improve its recruitment and selection, remuneration and benefits and employee relations strategies
Recruitment and Selection

To review, interpret and understand SAAT’s talent and resourcing requirements and how to meet these needs
Design and implement recruitment and selection strategies to satisfy current and future resourcing needs
Remuneration and Benefits

To ensure the successful delivery of SAAT’s remuneration and benefits strategy in order to meet legislative and contractual obligations
Employee Relations

To develop and implement Employee Relations policies and procedures which will support harmonious employee relationships in the workplace and ensure that conflict and disagreements are resolved efficiently and effectively
Cost and budget management

Prepare and manage budget within area of control
Prepare cost tracking and variation reports
Make recommendations for budget-affecting change requests
Inform management timeously of potential over-spend
Staff Management

Manage all HR related matters pertaining to staff including, inter alia, recruitment, development of KPl’s, performance management, training, development and labour relations actions; and ensure compliance with all relevant HR and SAAT policies and procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related postgraduate qualification at NQF level 7
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years HR Management experience (Aviation industry experience preferable)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Human Resources best practices, policies and procedures
  • Human Resource Management methodologies principles, concepts and practices
  • Legislation governing Human Resources Practices (BCEA, LRA, OHSA, Constitution, EEA etc)

Job Purpose

South African Airways (SAA) wants you to join the SAA family as a First Officer.

As a First Officer, you will be expected to take all measures required for the safety of the flight, whether on the ground, or inflight, and be expected to perform the duties of a pilot for South African Airways as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).

Preference will be given to female pilot applicants in accordance with SAA’s Pilot Employment Equity Plan.

Candidates will be expected to undergo pre-employment assessments which includes checks i.e. criminal, credit, reference, authentication of qualifications etc., simulator / written and psychometric tests.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
  • Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
  • Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL).  A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
  • Valid Class 1 medical
  • A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must have expertise in the application of safety standards and safe operating practices
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of national and international aviation regulations such as CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, and EASA
  • Demonstrate a firm understanding of international travel, international customs and practices etc.
  • Knowledge of all legal regulations for the piloting/aviation profession in the South African and international regulatory environment
  • Business communication skills (verbal and written)
